• Ensuring timeous output of analysis results and rapid prototype samples
• Develop and optimize packaging designs to enable high functionality and performance with the efficient use of material and technologies
• Develop and validate material models for use in simulation models, based on material test data
• Initiate and lead projects that explore innovative packaging design for both internal and external customers
• Give technical guidance to FEA engineer on producing simulation results that are reliable and accurate, and assist product designers in understanding how to improve the functional performance of their designs
• Review product designers work to ensure high quality and accuracy
• Collaborate with toolroom on design and manufacturing of blow moulds and tooling parts
• Register and maintain intellectual property protection registers of all designs
• Interpret design parameters successfully converted into a product offering
• Provide the relevant information to the standards department to enable efficient transfer to operations
• Effectively utilize design information to assist with RCA’s and customer feedback
• Ensure that plant layouts are in place, up to date and stored in the document library

Qualifications

• BSc/BTech/ND Mechanical Engineering

Skills

• Experience in design of plastic bottles/lids, and other packaging products
• 3D CAD and simulation software including the application thereof plus Solid Edge and NX experience
• 4 years’ practical experience in a product development environment, which should include experience in engineering simulation and product optimisation within a manufacturing environment
• Good mathematical and engineering design background
• Experience in non-linear analysis of plastic parts will be advantageous
• Proven experience in rapid prototyping
