My Experience started with the hospitality industry in February 1997 when I started in the Thornybush Private Game Reserve as a Relief Field Guide/ Manager, alternating between 4 Lodges; two Corporate and two Commercial. These Lodges worked on an eight week on and a two week off schedule, where I filled in when the resident Management Couple went on Leave. All four these lodges could be considered as, at least 4 star Lodges.
In October 1997, one of the Commercial Lodges became available and so I was offered the Management position at Serondella Lodge. Serondella accommodates eight guests at any one time and has a staff compliment of nine.
I was responsible for all aspects, ensuring the smooth running of the Lodge as well as making sure that the Guests had all they could wish for.
I conducted Game Drives on a daily basis and when not in the bush, I was responsible for the general maintenance of the Lodge and vehicles. Hosting of guests and their safety were my main priorities when not on drives.
I completed my "Advanced Weapons Handling and dealing with Dangerous Game" course with Adriaan Louw (Eagle's Wing Bush Skills) in January 2002.
I furthered my "Bush" experience in the Welgevonden Game Reserve at Shibula Lodge as part of the management team. Shibula is a 5 star lodge and bush Spa that can accommodate up to 20 guests. I was responsible for the FieJd Guides' Duty schedules, overseeing vehicle maintenance, as well as general maintenance in and around the lodge. I also conducted Game Drives and walks in this 33000Ha Big 5 Game Reserve on a daily basis. Guest satisfaction and hosting was part of the daily routine.
Zebras Crossing is a small private Game Lodge in the Modimolle (Nylstroom) area. Here I was more involved in the management of the reserve and its game. Game Drives and walks, and Lodge maintenance were my responsibilities.
I returned to the Welgevonden Private Game Reserve and settled in the "Clearwater Lodges Family" at Tshetshepi Lodge, a Relais & Chateaux Lodge sleeping 10 guests. Hosting, Game walks and drives, lodge and grounds maintenance, stock control and staff management were included in the daily program as well as escorting guests to and from their rooms after dark.
From sadly leaving the bush, I arrived in Sabie in February 2008 to start a career as Guest House Manager. Forest View Guest House was started from scratch and built up to where it is today; one of the prominent guest houses in Sabie. My Duties included Website design, Marketing, Hosting, general and garden maintenance, and also getting involved in the SAPS hospitality forum!
From Sabie, I moved to Gauteng, for personal reasons and started working for Midrand Truck & Electrical as a Stock Controller. My duties included the purchasing and capturing new stock, finding stock as per customers' requests, overseeing the sales staff, design of promotional material on
Adobe Photo shop, assisting the sales executiv es, inv oicing and estimat es. In April 2020, I left MTE Truck & Trailer due to retren chment .
Ideally, I would either return to the hospitality industr y and mana g e a Game Lodge, or remain in the Priva te Sector, and would be willing t o travel and/or relocate.
